Can You Hear Me Now?
How to communicate with your professional teams about your concerns and your child’s needs.
Physicians, educators, therapists, and specialists all have unique styles of communication that you can learn about to add your voice to the conversation. We will talk about medical concerns, IEP and 504 accommodations, and how what happens at school affects you at home and vice versa. We will also talk about how to bring your concerns to the table in discussions so that the team or individual providers can agree on a course of action to benefit your child and your family.
Presenter: Terisa Gabrielsen, PhD, NCSP is an Assistant Professor of School Psychology at BYU. She has been working with families in schools, hospitals, and in research for the last 8 years in Utah and the greater Philadelphia area. She is also the Autism Enhancement Coordinator for the Utah Regional Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program, an interdisciplinary training program for family-centered care of children with special health care needs.
