By Principal's Message

Another wonderful school year has come and gone. Our theme this year was, “Quest for Success!” The students took hold of this theme and made great efforts to help Bonneville Elementary reach a new level of success. Students earned “Road to Success” reading parties and assemblies for their exceptional reading minutes with home reading. They also worked hard to stomp out bullying and had a desire to show respect and responsibility for themselves and those around them. This helped the tone in the building to be warm and inviting, especially the last three months of the school year. I appreciate all of the students here at Bonneville and all that they did to make this year a success.

Now for a couple of items that you may be wondering about as we close out this school year.

On the last day of school (May 31st), we will send promotion slips and report cards home with your student. If your student cannot attend school the last day, all materials will be saved and available to pickup at the school during the summer months. (*The school office will be open on Mondays from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. and due to construction, the library will be closed for summer book check-out.)

Finally, this year we have several educators leaving Bonneville. Mrs. Deb Gehris and Mrs. Ann Watson have decided to retire from teaching this year. Mrs. Cammie Dickerson is opening her own pre-school and won’t be back next school year. Mrs. Christiansen and Miss Budd will be finishing up their one-year contracts at Bonneville and Mrs. Downey has finished her teaching internship. Mrs. Whitezell is preparing for a new baby and will be moving with her family to Colorado. Mrs. Penovich has been assigned to Cascade Elementary for a new reading recovery assignment.

It is never easy to say goodbye to great teachers. They have all contributed to the success of Bonneville Elementary and they will all be missed.

Thank you for helping make his a successful year at Bonneville Elementary. Have a great summer and we will see everyone in the Fall.

Sincerely,

Mr. Shawn Brooks

During the month of March, our school announced and implementing the “Spring into Action Bullying Prevention Program” to help students to focus on making good choices and to take a stand against bullying behaviors. It has been a very positive experience for the students and we will continue to run the program during the month of April.

For the month of April, the new theme will be, “Shower others with Kindness.” Students will be encouraged to spend tiem during the school day being kind to teachers and students. Teachers and staff will be watching and catch students being kind to others. Then, teachers will write the student’s name, along with the kind deed, on a paper umbrella to be displayed in the front windows of the school. All students will be able to read about what their classmates are doing to help our school be “bully-free.”

Students will also be able to suggest unique ways to be kind to classmates and teachers. These suggestions can be written can be written on paper raindrops and placed in a small rain barrel by the office. Mr. Brooks will select a couple of raindrops a day to read on morning announcements. It is our hope that by having students come up with ways to be kind and by being caught being kind, we will see an increase in attention to kindness to others and see less bullying.

As a suggestion, we would appreciate parents taking time to talk with their child about the new theme for April and even challenging them to do one kind act of service each day at school. Your child could even report back to you at dinnertime about what they did each day. As we work together, we can help Bonneville to be an even better place for students.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Mr. Shawn Brooks
